Tampelas Project
Regenerative development managed through participatory planning and adaptive, community-based construction practices.
Tampelas is a regenerative development initiative in a remote rural context, where community empowerment forms the foundation of the project approach. Tata Habitat was involved as part of the project and construction management team, with several members also participating in the early participatory planning phase prior to the generation of the master plan and architectural design.
The construction workforce consisted of local residents, positioning construction as an extension of community empowerment rather than a conventional contractor-led process. Working with limited access to industrial materials and skilled labour, Tata Habitat adapted design intentions to on-site realities, responding to local material availability, construction skills, and logistical constraints.
Through participatory planning and adaptive construction management, Tampelas presents an alternative model of regenerative development, where architecture and construction function as tools for local resilience, knowledge transfer, and place-based growth.
