Kamipang Basecamp
A remote forest basecamp designed for resilience, livelihood, and community stewardship.
Kamipang Basecamp is a design development project for a ranger basecamp located in a remote peat forest area in Katingan, Central Kalimantan. The facility functions as both a resting space and an operational office for forest rangers, most of whom are local residents directly involved in protecting and managing the surrounding landscape.
Situated along a river edge, the basecamp adopts a stilted architectural typology that responds to seasonal flooding. This approach allows the building to adapt to changing water levels while maintaining functionality and minimizing disturbance to the peatland ecosystem.
Designed for long-term resilience, the project integrates livelihood support and community presence into its architectural strategy. Kamipang Basecamp demonstrates how modest, site-responsive architecture can support daily operations in remote environments while reinforcing the role of local communities as stewards of fragile forest landscapes.
